Shared value
Our shared value approach
For NSSF, shared value describes a specific discipline: making decisions that strengthen the Fund financially while advancing the social and economic wellbeing of its members, rather than pursuing these as separate priorities.
It means that helping a member manage or grow their savings, helping an entrepreneur build a business, or holding an employer to their obligations can strengthen the Fund and the member through the same action. This is what it means to Believe in YOU.
Aligned to our Vision 2035 ambition of reaching 15 million members, this belief was expressed this year through three initiatives in particular: strengthening financial knowledge for members managing existing savings and those building new ones, connecting enterprise growth to future social security participation, and protecting contributions that members were already owed.
From knowledge to security
Building financial confidence for brighter futures.

Our Financial Literacy Programme supports members at different stages of their savings journey; helping those who are not yet saving to begin building the habit and helping those who already contribute or have just received a payout to manage their money well.
Through community and workplace sessions, webinars, radio and storytelling, the Programme reached 1,441,673 Ugandans across 392 engagements this year, covering personal financial management, saving, debt management and wealth creation. In partnership with the Bank of Uganda, 120 trainers graduated to extend that reach further.
For members without a formal savings habit, that knowledge becomes concrete the moment it converts into action, which is exactly the role Smartlife plays. In May 2026, Smartlife’s minimum contribution was lowered from UGX 5,000 to UGX 500, removing a barrier for traders, farmers, boda-boda riders, and others across the informal economy.
Working through more than 80 partners, from telecoms to faith-based organisations, NSSF carried both messages into communities. Smartlife grew to 97,492 members contributing UGX 138 billion, up from 27,194 members and UGX 17 billion the year before. Every one of those shillings represents a better protected member, and the Fund is stronger for it. Read more
