Mr. Benoni Katende

“At NSSF, technology is not simply infrastructure; it is how we translate our belief in every member into convenient, secure, and dependable services. Behind every contribution is a personal aspiration: a dignified retirement, protection for a family, the growth of a livelihood and confidence in the future. Our responsibility is therefore to build technology that safeguards these aspirations while making it easier for more Ugandans to save.”

OUR MEMBERS · TECHNOLOGY THAT BELIEVES IN EVERY MEMBER

Putting the member at the centre

During the year, we continued to place the member at the centre of our digital transformation. Our focus extended beyond making services available online to improving the complete member journey, from registration and authentication to making contributions, tracking savings, and applying for benefits. We are strengthening our ability to identify where members encounter delays, abandon a process or require assistance. This end-to-end visibility will enable us to distinguish between system failures and journey complexity, respond more quickly to service interruptions, and continuously improve the experience across mobile, web, USSD and assisted channels.

Building the foundations for tomorrow

We also advanced the foundations for the next generation of NSSF’s core systems. The future platform is being designed around the evolving needs of members, employers, and the Fund; covering member and employer administration, contributions, benefits, payments, financial management and investment-related processes. This is not merely a replacement of technology. It is an opportunity to simplify processes, improve data quality, strengthen integration, and create a resilient architecture that can support the Fund’s growth for many years to come.

Protecting what matters

As our services become increasingly digital, protecting what matters remains fundamental. We continue to strengthen cybersecurity, access governance, data protection, change management, and operational resilience. Our objective is not only to prevent incidents, but also to detect emerging issues early, contain them quickly, and recover services with minimal disruption to members. Improved observability and service monitoring will provide a clearer view of transaction performance and member experience, including the small proportion of transactions that may fall outside acceptable service levels but often cause the greatest frustration.

OUR MEMBERS

Turning technology into lasting value

Data is becoming an increasingly important instrument for creating member value. By responsibly bringing together information from across our operations, we can better understand member needs, personalise engagement, identify service challenges, and support more timely decision-making. The same capability will strengthen employer compliance, improve operational efficiency, and enable the Fund to direct its resources towards interventions with the greatest impact. This will be underpinned by strong data governance, privacy safeguards, and appropriate human oversight.

Through Smartlife and our broader digital ecosystem, we are building more accessible and flexible ways for Ugandans, particularly those outside traditional formal employment, to save. Our ambition is to move beyond asking members to remember to save and progressively make saving part of everyday life. This includes exploring payment-based experiences such as save-as-you-transact, stronger partnerships and relevant data-informed prompts that make voluntary saving easier, more convenient, and more responsive to individual circumstances.

We Believe in YOU

These initiatives bring the theme “We Believe in YOU” to life. We believe in the member whose future depends on every contribution. We believe in the collective strength of our employees, employers, partners, and regulators. And as a priority, we believe that secure, resilient, and inclusive technology can transform trust into lasting value, helping NSSF build sustainable wellbeing for Uganda and for generations to come.
